Senior Network Engineer

The Senior Network Engineer will be part of the Content Propagation and Resolution team ("CPR"). CPR is responsible for running the DNS of over 10% of the Internet, as well as devising and providing support for emerging protocols on the 'Net. In this role, the Senior Network Engineer will design and implement the supporting infrastructure to run name-services applications in a globally distributed environment. The Senior Network Engineer may also take an active lead in developing and shaping the future of the Internet by working within the Internet community to define, build and implement emerging technologies.
Key responsibilities:
Design and implementation of new network and routing architectures
Retrofit existing network and routing architectures as required
Set up and maintain test-lab networks
Lead group interop with colocation providers, transit providers and Internet exchanges
Evaluate hardware/software/protocols for production viability
Troubleshoot and support network gear and operations
Provide protocol and standards expertise, particularly for networking and related protocols
Provide documentation and training for networking and other non-networking peers
Provide second-level support to resolve customer and organization name service issues as submitted within the ticketing system, or as escalated by the Network Operations Center
Develop scripts and applications to automate common or repetitive tasks
Some participation in Network-Operator Communities
Technical knowledge & skills required:
Expertise in routing protocols, with specific knowledge in BGP, multicasting, and anycasting
Proven track record of designing and/or maintaining robust, world-class production networks
Operational experience with vendor-diverse network gear and environments (Juniper, Cisco, others)
Cisco CCIE or equivalent experience a plus
Experience with packet and traffic analysis
DNS operational experience preferred
DNS protocol expertise a plus
UNIX systems administration experience a plus
Ability to read and understand technical specifications quickly.
You may often be required to work outside regular working hours and from remote locations (remote offices, datacenters, home), approximately 10-15% travel, some international.
